An
anti-aging cream that might save your life
Trienelle® takes on skin cancer and aging
Half of all new cancers are skin cancers.
In fact, they're more common than cancers of any other organ. Over 1.3 million
cases of basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer are expected to be diagnosed
this year.1 Sobering isn't it? But now a powerful form of an old standby offers
new hope.
The antioxidant
advantage
Antioxidants like vitamin C and E have
become very popular in skin products and for good reason. There's a wealth of
research documenting their value in protecting the skin from sun
damage.
Most skin cancer is caused by overexposure
to the sun. The ultraviolet (UV) radiation generates an excessive number of
superoxide radicals in exposed skin cells. These highly reactive molecules can,
among other things, cause serious damage to your DNA. As a result of this, skin
cells may begin to reproduce uncontrollably, leading to benign, precancerous, or
malignant lesions on the skin.2 In short, sun exposure can lead to skin
weathering,3 abnormal growths, and in serious cases, skin cancer.4
Antioxidants counteract this effect by
coupling with the free radicals before they can harm the DNA. The effectiveness
of antioxidants in protecting the skin against sun damage has been well
documented. A double-blind placebo study held at the University of Munich found
that combined antioxidants (vitamins C and E in the study) reduce the sunburn
reaction‹stopping the skin damage before it degenerates to something more
serious.5
The following year, University of Leiden
researchers demonstrated that topically applied antioxidants can be used to
prevent UV rays from damaging epidermal layers.
In a study carried out specifically on the
antioxidant qualities of vitamin E, researchers concluded that it's an effective
sunscreen and prevents the formation of DNA lesions that lead to skin
cancer.7
Natural compound combats aging and
cancer
One of our panelists, Dr. Randall
Wilkinson, has developed a skin cream to help you win the war against skin
cancer and aging. It's a combination of several elements‹all of which add up to
one of the most powerful skin-care products on the market, both for its
disease-fighting capabilities and for its ability to restore a youthful
appearance to the skin.
Trienelle Daily Renewal Crème is designed
to address both the issue of cellular damage that can lead to skin malignancies
as well as the more cosmetic issue of premature aging and skin weathering. In
doing so, it uses a very unique and scientifically supported combination of
natural ingredients.
Trienelle harnesses the proven power of
tocotrienols
While vitamin E is helpful in protecting
the skin from UV damage, not all vitamin E is created equal. The key is to find
the most effective form to carry out this all-important task. That's where
tocotrienols come in. As we reported in last month's Memebers Alert (as well as
the December 1997 issue), there are two primary forms of vitamin E: tocotrienol
and the more common alpha-tocopherol. While alpha-tercopherols are used in face
creams and the majority of nutritional supplements on the market, tocotrienols
are actually far more potent‹up to 60 times more effective.8
Trienelle includes both tocotrienols
and mixed tocopherols, to take advantage of the full range of both forms of
vitamin E.
Recent studies have verified this,
concluding that the physiological activities of tocotrienols make them superior
to alpha-tocopherols and that its role in cancer prevention may have
"significant clinical implications."9
Tocotrienols offers other distinct
advantages over alpha-tocopherols and other antioxidant nutrients used in
skin-care products. They're better absorbed and distributed in the superficial
and deep skin layers.10 Unlike alpha-tocopherol, which is quickly depleted by UV
exposure, tocotrienols remain in the skin at greater concentrations and even
help to preserve the levels of tocopherols in the skin. Tocotrienols, when
applied to the skin, also help to retain vitamin E, even after UV
exposure.11
And, in addition to its antioxidant
capacity, tocotrienols have another important role in derailing the cancer
process at the cellular level. As described in the September 1998 Member's
Alert, tocotrienols also regulate a key biochemical supply necessary for cell
proliferation. To put it simply, tocotrienols help short-circuit the excess
spreading of cells, even when DNA damage has occurred.
Recent studies have verified that the
physiological activities of tocotrienols make them superior to alpha tocopherols
and that its role in cancer preventionmay have "significant clinical
implications."
Trienelle includes both tocotrienols
and mixed
tocopherols, to take advantage of the full range of both forms of vitamin E,
incorporating a particularly potent concentration of tocotrienols (extracted
from rice bran and palm oil) for maximum benefit. Trienelle is the only
skin-care product that uses tocotrienols, while alpha-tocopherol crèmes are
readily available.
A new technology for skin
care
Trienelle uses a newly developed
technology to deliver the maximum benefit to your skin. It's called the
TololurTM Skin Nutrition Complex, and it features an advanced liposomal delivery
system. Liposomes are tiny drop like particles 300 times smaller than cells,
Encased by fat-soluble membranes made from the same material as actual cells,
liposomes penetrate quickly and deeply through the waterproof outer layer of the
skin. When the liposomes come into contact with the cells of the dermis, the
nutrients contained inside are transferred via osmosis into the living
cells.
Each Tocolur liposome contains both
tocotrienols and tocopherols, In addition, the formulators have included
applephenone‹a recently discovered super-potent antioxidant. Extracted from
green apples, applephenone also protects cells against carcinogens and is a
natural antihistamine (helping to block allergic reactions like
hives).
Trienelle offers complete skin
protection
Dr. Wilkinson's goal in creating Trienelle
was to have a skin care product that provided "the very best protection against
skin cancer, sun, and aging-related damage available anywhere.
Period."
Although Trienelle is priced the same as
other premium skin care products, no expense was spared in using the best
materials. Dr. Ron DiSalvo, the crème's chief formulator, noted, "The quality of
ingredients and the high potencies of cutting-edge and active ingredients make
Trienelle probably the most expensive formula [to manufacture] that I've ever
put together."
Trienelle should be massaged into clean
skin once in the morning and once before bedtime. Care should be taken to cover
those areas most susceptible to sun damage‹the face, the back of the neck, and
the ears. There's no need to wear and additional moisturizer, as the crème has a
highly emollient lotion base (featuring chlorella) that attracts and holds
moisture in the skin.

Melatonin heals damaged
skin Melatonin increases Trienelle's
antioxidant and antiaging properties. In fact, topically applied melatonin has
been shown to protect against sunburn and to heal skin already
burned.12
Immunoprotective
complex Radiation from the sun can
seriously suppress the cellular immune system of the skin, which is the body's
largest immuno-protective organ. Skin care ingredients are now being developed
and evaluated for their IPF value (immuno-protective factor). Similar to the
widely used SPF, the IPF describes the ability of a substance to protect against
immune suppression caused by UV radiation.
Trienelle uses reishi and versicolor
mushroom extracts and HI-IG colostrums to shield against the immuno-suppression
caused by UV radiation. See the December 1996 and January 1997 Members Alert for
more information on these powerful compounds.
Alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) is a powerful
skin exfoliant AHA has become one of the
most popular and widely used skin-care ingredients, mostly for its ability to
improve the look of mature and prematurely aging skin through its natural
exfoliating qualities.13
By speeding the rate of turnover of dead
skin cells on the surface of the skin, AHA reduces the appearance of fine lines
and wrinkles by revealing the fresher layers beneath the surface, Trienelle
includes multi-fruit hydroxy acids (from bilberry, maple, orange, and lemon) at
a level that maximizes the therapeutic benefit and minimizes any possible
sensitivity or irritation. |
